Hi, I’m Michael, a journalist and copywriter from London living in Germany. I work with words, both creatively as a copywriter for commercial projects and as an editorial writer and editor, with a focus on sports.

Creative Copywriting

My ability to engage and persuade with words is one of my core skills. Whether for online, print or social media campaigns, I am able to write concisely and express a lot in just a few words, while respecting a brand's tone of voice. I am equally comfortable devising clever slogans and titles as well as longer form texts that speak directly to customers or clients.

Editing

As well as writing cleanly, I am also an eagle-eyed editor. I have 15 years' experience as a managing editor and proofreader, working across many genres such as News, Business, Culture and Sports. I have edited hundreds of long-form features and every article published in Rabona magazine. Covering live events has honed my ability to write and edit under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Interviewing

I'm an accomplished interviewer and have sat down with many people, including some of the world's most prominent sports figures such as England captain Harry Kane and former Germany captain Michael Ballack. My interviews have been published by many traditional media outlets and commercial partners. My interviewing style is friendly but provocative; I enjoy this aspect of my work and can connect with people from all walks of life.

Social Media

I have a wealth of experience producing photo and video content for social media, particularly on Instagram. I grew Rabona's Instagram from scratch to 30k followers and built sizeable followings on Facebook and Twitter by curating and commissioning unique and visually striking content. These skills led German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle to request that I launch their Instagram channel.

Photography

In recent years, I have developed my photojournalism skills to compliment my written work. I can work in both digital and film  and I'm capable of reportage, documentary and action photography. This is an area I am exploring for future growth.  I have also worked as a producer on a number of short films.

Photoshop & Lightroom

I have been working with Photoshop and Lightroom to a professional standard for 5+ years. I'm comfortable editing photos quickly and easily in Lightroom and can create graphics and other promotional material using Photoshop.

Media Law

A key element of my post-graduate NCTJ Journalism training at the Press Association in Newcastle, UK, was Media Law. I have a thorough understanding of the laws the govern the media in the United Kingdom, European Union and beyond. I have been a fully qualified journalist since 2009.
